Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center

The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center is located in the heart of San Antonio along the historic River Walk.  It was built in 1968 as part of the HemisFair and has been expanded three times to a total of 1.3 square feet.  Meetings South readers have voted the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center the "Best Convention Center in the Industry" two years in a row.

Space

The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center has four exhibit halls with a total of 440,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space.  The largest of three ballrooms is 40,000 square feet.  There are 67 meeting rooms.

The Alamodome

The Alamodome is a multipurpose facility located on the southeastern edge of Downtown San Antonio.  It was the home of the San Antonio Spurs from 1993 to 2002 and is the location of the annual Valero Alamo Bowl.  The unique design allows events to have the advantage of both a dome as well as a convention center.

Space

The Alamodome has over 160,000 square feet of flexible space and can hold as many as 65,000 people.  The Illusions Theatre has a state-of-the-art curtain and LED lighting and can be configure from 3,000 to 11,000 seats. Additional space is provided in 16 meeting rooms.

Weather

San Antonio has a mix of a subtropical climate and a semi-arid climate.  That means it's hot in the summer with winters being warm to cool.  Spring and fall are generally warm and wet.

Transportation & Reach

San Antonio is accessible by air through San Antonio International Airport.  The city is accessible by Interstates I-10, I-35 and I-37.

San Antonio International Airport is served by 21 airlines and is located eight miles north of Downtown.

Stinson Municipal Airport is a reliever airport for San Antonio International Airport and is the home of the Texas Air Museum.

Train Transportation to San Antonio

Amtrak provides service into San Antonio via the Texas Eagle from Chicago.  Amtrak's Sunset Limited runs through San Antonio en route from Orlando to Los Angeles.

Buses:  VIA Metropolitan Transit provides bus and streetcar (rubber tired) transportation in the city connecting Downtown San Antonio, the South Texas Medical Center and the main campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Trains:  San Antonio is currently the largest U.S. city to not have an intra-city rail system.

Other: Taxi service is available in San Antonio at the airport and at major hotels and venues.

Major Entertainment: San Antonio is a city of Festivals from the San Antonio Mud Festival to the Texas Folklife Festival to the Fiesta San Antonio.  The historic Majestic Theatre is home to the San Antonio Symphony and the Majestic Broadway Series.

Shopping in San Antonio: San Antonio is a great city for shopping and has been named by Forbes.com as one of America's 25 Best Cities for Shopping.  Visit the outlets at the Alamo Quarry Market, North Star Mall or RiverCenter Mall along the banks of the famous Riverwalk.

Excursions from San Antonio: There's plenty to see right in San Antonio, but for a little more adventure check out Garner State Park, Lake Amistad or Natural Bridge Caverns.  Fredericksburg is one of the most popular towns in Texas offering the rich history of the Hill Country along with shopping and fine dining.
